The tomato plant is scientially called Solanum lycopersicum and is a native of Mexico. They are rich sources of vitamin C and are consumed either raw or cooked. Tomatoes are largely used in the preparation of ketchups, pastes and purees. They are usually oval or round in shape and are red in colour with yellow and green shades on it. They have high amounts of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K and also vitamin B6.
